The right quartz banger comes down to three matches: joint size, joint angle, and joint gender, all set by your dab rig, plus a style choice based on how you dab. Get the first three wrong and the banger won't fit. Get the style right and every session gets better.
Step 1: Find Your Joint Size
Quartz bangers come in three standard sizes: 10mm, 14mm, and 18mm. Your banger has to match your rig's joint size exactly, since there's no universal fit between sizes.
-
10mm: built for mini and micro dab rigs
-
14mm: the most common size, used on most modern rigs and dual-purpose bongs
-
18mm: found on larger rigs and some bongs built for both flower and concentrates
If you're not sure which size your rig takes, check the joint opening against a household coin or a printed size guide, or look up the rig's listed specs. When in doubt, 14mm is the safest guess, since it's the size most rigs on the market use.
Step 2: Match the Joint Gender
Every joint is either male or female, and a banger has to be the opposite gender of your rig's joint to connect. A female joint flares outward and accepts a male banger sliding into it. A male joint is a narrower stem that slides into a female banger fitted over it.
Look at your rig's joint before you buy. If it's a wide opening you'd slide something into, you need a male banger from your dab rig accessories shopping list. If it's a narrower stem you'd slide something over, you need a female banger instead.
Step 3: Match the Joint Angle
Bangers come in two standard angles: 90° and 45°. The angle has to match how your rig's joint sits, or the banger will lean and your concentrate will pool unevenly instead of sitting flat in the dish.
-
90°: the joint points straight up, common on dedicated dab rigs
-
45°: the joint sits at a slant, common on some older rigs and multi-use pieces
Set your rig on a flat surface and look at the angle of the joint to confirm which one you have before ordering.
Step 4: Pick a Banger Style
Once size, gender, and angle are locked in, style comes down to how you actually dab. The three most common styles are flat top, beveled edge, and terp slurper.
Flat Top
A flat top banger has a simple, open dish and a flat rim. It's the most straightforward style to use and clean, which makes it a solid default for anyone newer to dabbing or anyone who wants a no-fuss setup.
Beveled Edge
A beveled edge banger has a rim that angles inward instead of sitting flat. That shape creates a tighter seal with a carb cap, which traps more heat and vapor instead of letting it escape around the edges. The tighter seal is especially useful for low-temp dabbing, where holding heat in matters more.
Terp Slurper
A terp slurper is built differently from a standard bucket-style banger. Instead of one open dish, it has a bottom dish connected to a vertical tube with small slits cut into the sides. When you inhale, the airflow pulls concentrate up through those slits and circulates it around the hot quartz instead of letting it sit still in one spot.
That circulation is the main advantage. It lets a terp slurper fully vaporize larger dabs without leaving unused concentrate behind, and it holds heat well enough to support lower dabbing temperatures, which helps preserve flavor. Terp slurpers are usually paired with a set of terp pearls or a marble, which spin inside the upper chamber and help spread heat evenly. The tradeoff is a more involved cleaning and setup process compared to a flat top.
Putting It Together
A beginner setup on a 14mm, 90° rig is usually best served by a simple flat top banger, since it's the easiest to use and clean while you're still learning your rig's timing and temperature. A more experienced dabber chasing flavor and efficiency on the same size rig might move to a beveled edge or terp slurper instead, accepting a steeper learning curve in exchange for better performance.
Whatever style you land on, size, gender, and angle come first. A terp slurper in the wrong size or angle won't work any better than a flat top in the wrong size, so confirm those three matches before style enters the decision at all.
